Local 196 represents over 1900 Community RNs and RPNs in 46 offices throughout the Edmonton zone (including Fort Saskatchewan, Leduc, Morinville, St. Albert, Devon, and the surrounding area).
Local 196 depends on a dedicated group of Office Representatives to assist the community staff in providing cohesive service over a large geographic area.
Local 196 represents multiple specialties including, but not limited to:
- Public Health
- Continuing Care (Home Care, CCA, CHOICE, CAIL, Transition Services, Supportive Living and Facility Living)
- Addictions & Mental Health (Henwood, ARC, ODP Narcotic Transition Services, and Community Mental Health Clinics)
- Birth Control
- TB Clinic
- SCOPE (Edmonton Colorectal Cancer Clinic)
- East Edmonton Urgent Care Centre
- Strathcona Hospital
- Northeast Community Emergency Centre

The mission of UNA Local 196 is to recognize and represent our diverse membership by serving as a knowledgeable resource through effective communication and accountability.
Vision Statement
UNA Local 196 strives to create and maintain an active and engaged membership. This will be demonstrated by increased attendance, participation in local functions, active committees and positive feedback locally and provincially. The members and Executive of Local 196 will embody pride and demonstrate confidence in themselves as individuals, nurses and union members. Local 196 will continue stimulating discussion and encouraging open communication with its membership.
